Online education, courses, and e-learning are here and here to stay! Staying ahead of the curve is crucial for course creators. One of the most innovative tools we have at our disposal today is the custom Generative Pre-trained transformers (GPT).
These AI-driven models can (and will) revolutionize the way you enable your students to engage with your materials and implement what they’re learning.
I don’t know about you but as much as I LOVE a good workbook, they don’t always help my students to implement and take action. That’s where I’ve found customGPTs to have a sweet spot!
My first Custom GPT I sold…
I have a course called the Social Sales Funnel that teaches students how to write a 9 or 12 grid “funnel” for their Instagram®! It essentially allows you to walk away from Instagram but still have the platform/your profile serve as a touchpoint. The course is loved but students almost always wanted help strategizing and writing their captions for the funnel. So – I created a customGPT that is trained on my course materials, loaded with examples, and able to help students not only figure out their new grid strategy but also write the content that goes into it.
1. Personalized Learning Assistants
Imagine having a virtual assistant tailored to your course content that provides personalized guidance to each student. Custom GPTs can serve as personal tutors, answering questions, offering additional explanations, and adapting their responses based on individual learning styles. This creates a more engaging and supportive learning environment, helping students grasp complex concepts at their own pace.
Example: In a coding course, a custom GPT can help debug students’ code, suggest improvements, and explain difficult concepts in simpler terms.
2. Implementing your Templates
How cool would it be to not only give your students templates and examples but also be able to help them add personalized content directly? Custom GPTs can assist students by asking smart questions and generating tailored content based on their inputs. This not only saves time but also ensures that the output is relevant and high-quality.
Example: A launch course can offer templates and a GPT that’s able to ask the user smart questions and output a draft of launch emails – complete with formatting recommendations and a schedule to send them.
3. Real-Time Feedback on Their Work
Timely and constructive feedback is essential for student growth and implementation. Custom GPTs can automate the initial review process of work-in-progress assignments, offering instant feedback on common errors, suggesting improvements, and even correcting straightforward tasks. This allows you the instructor to focus on providing deeper insights and personalized feedback where it matters most.
Example: In a writing course, a custom GPT can provide grammar and style suggestions, helping students refine their drafts before submission.
4. Simulated Role-Playing and Scenarios
Engage students with immersive learning experiences through simulated role-playing and scenarios. Custom GPTs can act as various characters or entities within a scenario, providing realistic interactions and responses. This method is particularly effective in courses that require practical application of knowledge, such as language learning or business negotiations.
Example: A sales course can use a custom GPT to simulate conversations with fake prospects, offering students the chance to practice handling objections, opening a conversation, and closing a sale.
Conclusion
The future of online education full of potential. By leveraging emerging technologies and understanding evolving student preferences, course creators can stay ahead of the curve and provide exceptional learning experiences. Whether through personalized AI-driven content, immersive AR/VR experiences, or flexible hybrid models, the opportunities for innovation in online education are endless.
