Guess what? If you click on a link that I’ve provided, it might
be a link to someone who will give me a commission if you
buy something from their site. That means that I might get
paid if you click on that link - at no additional cost to you.

That said, I promise to use any commissions earned
for good causes: Things like reinvesting in this business to
bring you even better resources, and quite possibly a facial... because self care!

Have a skill or something you love to do? You can probably monetize it. Whether your goal is to go full-time in your business or just add some side money to your day-job income, this is for you.

As someone who took a passion and built it from a side-hustle into her fulltime income, then gone on to help others and coach others to do the same, I have a lot to say about this topic!

1. Identify what you want to offer:

Now, I believe any offer can be marketed. But if you have an easily marketable skill such as graphic design, website design, marketing, copywriting, bookkeeping, accounting, research, or something like that, I can say with 100% certainty that businesses are looking for good contractors, just like you, that can help them take work off their plate, save them time, and help them reach their goals.

Your first step is to identify WHAT you WANT to offer. I recommend starting with only one offer. It’s easier to manage and sell one thing vs offering a smorgasbord of options. PLUS, when you’re known for one thing, it’s a lot easier from the client-side to make the purchase.

I’m a social media strategist with a team working under me and I can take on anywhere from 3-5 clients at a time. Without giving away too many personal details… from this part of my business alone, I bring in over $6,000/month.

2. Ask what is going to FIT into your life NOW:

We all have the same 24-hours in a day that Beyoncé has, but what we can do with that 24-hours isn’t always the same. It’s really important when you’re starting a new project or business that you take into consideration how much time you have for the new gig.

It’s also important to ask yourself what fits in with what you want your future to look like.

For me, Social media management was an easy gateway into the entrepreneurial space because it’s something that I had a significant amount of experience and passion around already, and I knew I could easily invest in more training to learn more and hone in on my skills.

I had enough to get started and service-based businesses are especially low overhead! A laptop, internet connection, and you’re off to the races!

3. Get your first client:

I wrote an entire blog post on this so … I won’t go into too much detail (that post is linked here) but this really is your next step to turning your skills into a full-time income! Clients! They pay the bills! Here are a couple of ways that aren’t mentioned in the other blog post:

  • Ask your peers for referrals
  • Get on social media and share what you’re selling with the call to action “I’m taking a few more clients!”
  • Search Facebook Groups and comment (but don’t pitch)
  • Build relationships in Instagram DM’s (again… don’t go straight to the pitch)
  • Search reporters and pitch them stories for free
  • Check for job postings on LinkedIn

4. Start creating content:

Once you know what you’re going to offer, start creating content! Building a library of content is a great way to market yourself. It’s up to you what type of content you want to create, but YouTube videos, podcast episodes, blog posts, or social media content is a great way to get started.

The goal with this content is to build yourself an audience and begin to make a name for yourself. You want to create educational content that shows your audience you value their experience and know what you’re talking about.

Are you going to start a business in 2021?
